The Many Risks of Not Writing a Will

When it comes to planning for the future, it isn’t simply enough to focus on saving money in case of an emergency. Though having money put aside is important, nothing is more important than writing a Will. A lot of people fail to write a Will, assuming that there’s no need to as they are still young and healthy. However, there are no guarantees in life and it’s important that loved ones are taken care of after you have passed.

Why Should You Write a Will?

There are a number of risks that come with not writing a Will, which is why it’s something that we encourage all of our clients to do. If you don’t have a Will, now is the time to create one. Here’s why:

  • It Makes Things Easier for Family and Friends – When you write a Will, you’ll make things a lot more straightforward for family and friends. Organising the finances and belongings of someone who has passed away can be time consuming and complex. When there is a Will to refer to, everything is made a lot easier.
  • Everything You Own Will Go Where You Want – Without a Will, everything will be shared equally and there’s no guaranteeing that this will be in line with what you want. By writing a Will, you can state who you want everything to go to.
  • Your Loved Ones Will Be Taken Care Of – Without a Will, there’s always a risk that those who depend on you financially will struggle. However, by writing a Will, you can avoid this altogether. You can ensure that partners and children will be taken care of if you were to pass away. This provides them with financial security and you with peace of mind.
  • Those Outside of Your Immediate Family Can Be Included – Without a Will, everything you own is shared amongst your immediate family. This can be a problem if you were planning to leave anything to someone else, such as a friend or distant relative. If you want to leave something to someone who isn’t in your immediate family, it will need to be written in a Will.

As you can see, writing a Will is hugely important. There are a number of problems that can occur when you don’t have a Will, all of which can be avoided. At Audley Chaucer, we can help you to organise everything surrounding writing your Will.
