Ministers Issue Warnings to Help to Buy Developers

Since the launch of Help to Buy in 2013, there has been significant demand for new-build homes. Last year, more than 222,000 new homes were built to meet this high demand. Help to Buy was originally due to end in 2021 but has now been extended to 2023.

After recent allegations of poor standards and high hidden charges, the Housing Secretary has warned developers that they must end “unacceptable” punitive costs and “nightmare” snagging problems in new homes.

Property builders must now consider whether their new-builds meet the necessary standards to benefit from the Help to Buy scheme.
